Long Distance House Consumer Mains

Fiona originally was running battery backup solar, which was unsatisfactory for her.

There was an existing Energex transformer in the paddock, 400 meters away from the house. We submitted a ‘supply availability request form’ with Energex to ensure the correct power could be delivered by the existing Energex network infrastructure. The following week, this information was confirmed.

As well as powering the house and 3 additional sheds, we installed an irrigation pump at the dam for small farm cropping as well. We completed the voltage drop calculations on the type of starter required to start the stipulated pump motor taking into account 7x locked rotor current at start up with the derating factors whether using DOL/Star/Delta frequency starters. As our cable sizes and mathematics differed from other quoting electricians, we recommended that we have a telephone conference call with an electrical engineer of Fiona’s choosing, to confirm the mathematical formulas and workings, so Fiona could hear first-hand the results and ask any questions with full transparency.

The electrical engineer approved and ticked off our mathematics as correct on the spot – and Fiona approved the quote whilst on the phone call. It’s always a pleasure doing electrical work for nice people!
